Right
to Information Act is a landmark Act in Indian Democracy .The act
facilitates information flow from the government to the citizens.
Thus it goes a long way in cutting red tape and ensuring transparency
in the government administrative machinery. Right to Information
was enforced through out the country on 15th, October2006. This
act gives right to every citizen of India to get information on
any issues from the government except those issues, which are mentioned,
in article 8 of the act. Though the act is enforced but still the
masses are not aware about the various aspects of the act because
government did not took sufficient steps in creating mass awareness
about the act among the masses. Hence in U.P. UPVAN took the initiative
in spearheading the Right to Information campaign through awareness
generation among masses through different mediums of communication
for which UPVAN in collaboration with VANI organized its first state
level workshop on RTI on 24-25 August 2006 to broad base the concept
of RTI among the N.G.O’S representative and commoners. Thereafter
need was felt to build a cadre of devoted and dedicated grass root
level professionals on RTI who will be known as Public Information
Worker (P.I.W) or “JAN SOOCHNASAINIK ”
who will in turn disseminate information to common masses on several
issues pertaining to RTI. With this objective 5 regional training
workshops were organized in U.P. with the support of the member
organizations and 166 “JAN SOOCHNASAINIK ” were trained
from 56 districts.
In short it could be said that the booklet is the brief summary
of the workshops conducted under RTI Act 05 at both state and regional
level
