The workshop started with the welcome note by Manish Kumar Singh. He then explained the objectives of the People’s manifesto. The ALL India People’s Manifesto is an effort to set the agenda for governance and development at the local level. It is a statement of national objectives defined by the people living across the country, based on their ground realities and aspirations. The All India People’s Manifesto will be put into action through 543 local hearings. WNTA is managing this programme at national level and in Uttar Pradesh UPVAN is organizing it in 19 constituencies through its member organizations.

Ashok Singh, secretary, UPVAN, discussed the strategies of this programme with the participants. The organizations will arrange local hearings to find out the problems of that area. Each of these hearings will result in the formation of local manifesto stating 10 key demands. It will also include a separate statement on the Women’s Charter outlining the governance and development priorities of women in the given constituency. The organizations can decide the process of identifying the area, groups and their problems on their own. The prepared manifesto will be presented to the candidate in presence of media. The organizations should send this manifesto to upvan office between 10-14 jan09. WNTA will present it to Prime Minister on 26th jan 09.
