Lokmitra
Organised a Regional consultation on RTE act-2009 on 2nd Dec
09 at Nehru Youth Hostel, Lucknow.
'The
Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act-2009'
is one of the most burning issues. Still its fate is hanging
between the supporters and non supporters group. The supporters
are playing a positive role because of the free and compulsory
education has been made as a fundamental right after a long
time struggle. But the non supporter views are very clear
that this act has created only illusion among the common man.
'Lokmitra', a very well known CSO working on the issue of
Basic elementary through 'Basic Shiksha Manch', is supporting
this act, organized one day regional consultation meeting.
This meeting was focused on to develop a common understanding
about the act, discuss major issue related to rules /regulation
and prepare a draft of suggestions for further advocacy.

Vatsalya
organised a State Level Consultation on birth and death registration
on 23rd Dec 09 at Gomti Hotel, Lucknow.
Women
empowerment is very essential in modern days for holistic
development of the society. Women play major role in every
sphere of life in our society and areas like social, economic,
cultural, science and sports etc, but this is limited. Major
percentage of women is not having any recognition and equal
status in our society. A "girl child birth" is a
well known curse in Indian society running from ancient times.
Govt. has launched many program/scheme for women empowerment
but its proper implementation is not visible. We know that
sex ratio is declining day by day in our country. The current
sex ratio is 1000:916 (0 to 6 year age). CSOs are also playing
a crucial role for women rights & empowerment; Vatsalya,
Lucknow is one of them. In this process Vatsalya organized
one day state level consultation workshop on issue of birth
and death registration. Status of birth and death registration
(Primary Data) in UP was handed over by Vatsalya, Lucknow
to representative of Registrar General (Census).
Issues discussed:
-
Birth & death registration is constitutional right of
the Indian Citizens.
- Role
of state government & CSOs on birth and death registration.
- Status
of birth and death registration in UP.
- Benefits
of birth and death registration.
- Issues
and Challenges on unbalanced sex ratio.
